Acronyms of Europe, all the initials of the European Union
The EEC ( European Economic Community ) is born on March 25 1957 with the famous “Treaties on Rome”: the first one of two treaties institutes the EEC, other the European Community of the Atomic energy, better known as European Atomic Energy Community. The treaties have entered into vigour the 1st January 1958. I trattati sono entrati in vigore il 1º gennaio 1958.
The EEC had like principal objective the carrying out of a great common market without internal frontiers. With the Advent of the European Union (Treaty on Maastricht, 1992) the "economic" word has been removed but the European Community has not disappeared, but become the first pillar of the European Union.
This is alone one of so many initials that many European citizens and above all those Italians have not learnt to use. The most adult persons will remember one of the first "European" terms the MEC (European single market), but since then so many people are the acronyms and the initials been born to indicate organisms, programs and activity of the European Union.
